Art and Craft forms an integral part of the cultivation of creativity in young children. At, St. Xavier’s, we promote holistic growth of students as depicted in the motto of the school, “Rupantarikarnium”, the Sanskrit word for development in all aspects of life. The junior sections in the school have a dedicated period for art and craft embedded effectively in the cycle. This period focuses, not on handing out instruction sheets and asking students to design a model but on cherishing the individuality of children and exploring their creativity. Children are guided to fill colors in the creative canvas of their being.
An Art and Craft exhibition is organized every year for the junior sections. This event is entirely managed by children under the able guidance their respective teachers which further goes on to cultivate leadership and organizational skills. A wide variety of art and craft exhibits are displayed in a decorated environment. No selection process for the exhibition ensures a broad variety of creative exhibits which in turn motivate students to work for the better.
The students are educated about the significance of a clean environment and guided not to use plastic, thermocol and other non-biodegradable articles for preparing their craft models. The craft models are mostly prepared using waste materials. This inculcates a sense of responsibility in the students whereby they use to utilize waste materials and learn to create useful, decorative exhibits from them.
